Earn Rules?How much you earn back per dollar in each spending category. Cashback cards show these as percentages (2% back on groceries). Points/miles cards show them as multipliers (3x on dining). The math applies each rule to your spending in that category to compute total rewards for the year.

Statement Credits?Annual dollar credits the card issues automatically or via reimbursement, such as travel credits, Uber Cash, CLEAR, hotel night certificates, and similar. Counted at face value in the math; you decide which ones you'd actually use.

Why this differs from the issuer's headline number. Card marketing sums every credit at full value and assumes you use all of them. We count each credit at face value too, but only the ones shown above. A credit you won't use is worth $0 to you, so the honest number for most people is lower than the brochure. Decide which ones fit your life; the calculator counts what you tell it to.

Signup Bonus?A one-time reward for opening the card and meeting a spend requirement. The full bonus counts toward the card's Year 1 value (only when your spend qualifies) and is excluded from its ongoing value.
